Avoiding Billing Dispute with iTalkBB

I have received some complaints toward iTalkBB with respect to billing. It seems that many of the billing incidents happened at the time of service renewal for a second year. Some were surprised that their credit cards get charged automatically for a second year. Some found their iTalkBB service terminated when transaction failed due to either expired credit card or stale address information. In some cases, collection agents were sent for and things got ugly.

Here let me share a few tips to avoid billing dispute with iTalkBB.

(i) go through italkbb's "terms and conditions" -- it's a bit length, but there's a few things that you should know, such as cancellation policy, renewal policy. As a matter of fact, it states in the first few lines:
  • "The Service is automatically renewed unless Customer provides iTalk notification of intent to terminate the Service not less than thirty (30) days prior to effective date of termination..."
  • "Upon purchase, Customer must provide iTalk a valid credit card number from an accepted issuer (see iTalk's website for accepted issuers). Customer authorizes iTalk to charge the credit card number ("Credit Card") for all charges arising from Customer's use of the Services..."
  • "Customer shall notify iTalk of any change to the Credit Card information including, without limitation, changes in account number, expiration date and billing address..."
So, you should expect that you credit card be charged for service renewal and keep your information updated through the iTalkBB account management page.

(ii) keep your email information in iTalkBB up-to-date and make sure your spam filter is set up properly. iTalkBB does send notification emails a couple of months before your current (annual) service plan expires. Also any service update from iTalkBB are communicated through emails.

(iii) use coupon code 953110 when register iTalkBB's serive (you will receive $10 instant discount). And if you are unfortunate to run into any billing problem, send email to italkbb.deal@gmail.com or post comments to this blog for additional assistance. We will do our best in helping you.

I have been with iTalkBB for two years and the service is alright. My 2nd year unlimited service was due Dec 02 and I called yesterday and was asked to call again today. I have decided to cancel it because it is not so convenient as phone card through which you can call from anywhere especially when u have to travel.Anyway, I was told that i will be charged for one more month service($24.99) even though iTalkBB has disconnected the phone on Dec 03 and canceled my account today through the phone. I am wondering if I can refuse the one month charge....I also heard lots of nasty stories about returning their equipment(IP box) and I am not sure about how mine would turn out to be. I will update on that one.

Dear Anonymous,

I have posted in http://italkbbreview.blogspot.com/2008/02/italkbb-cancellation-policy-round-2.html describing the partial month charges upon cancellation. In your case (as two-year customer), I might be able to help you if you leave your name/email/italkbb-number -- reply to "italkbb.deal@gmail.com" if you want privacy. Please make sure to return your adapter within 7 days or your equipment deposit is gone.

Thank you, iTalkBBDeal. I just sent to you an email. Hopefully iTalkBB would waive this charge.

Hi iTalkBB Deal,

Thank you for following up with the dispute about a charge on the service(was terminated). iTalkBB eventually dropped the $24.99 charge and I am grateful for that. However, I do believe there are lots of room for iTalkBB to improve and gain the confidence from the customers. I spent about $9 to return the iTalkBB IP box with signature required delivery service because I have heard lots of unfortunate stories about iTalkBB. I still do not know they were rumors or not. For me, iTalkBB confirms they received the returned box. iTalkBB could have make this easier and have the return at their own cost for people who have had service with them for some periods of time. That way it would gain customer's confidence about their service. Besides, $60 charge is a rip-off for such a cheap equipment. Thinking about amazon.com and shoebuy.com, the worry-free service makes their business successful. I believe iTalkBB could have done better.
